Ketchum’s Rowdy Mullins Athlete Spotlight – Presented By BancFirst

Success on the field is usually a direct indicator of work ethic and discipline off the field. A love for the game paired with a dedication to the work and discipline it takes, that’s the foundation. And that’s exactly the mindset of Rowdy Mullins of Ketchum High School. A junior short-stop with a left-hand bat and the faith that he is where he is supposed to be, aligned with his faith in God, his teammates, and his coach.

“Discipline off the field, for me, helps control my emotions on the field better,” Mullins says.

He is surrounded by his teammates, something he doesn’t take for granted. He understands that it’s the little things that make all the difference. When asked what his favorite memory is on the field he says, “probably just joking around during the game with the guys.”

He believes in his teammates and understands his role as a teammate, putting his relationships first, above his own success and achievements.

Mark Knoten is the head baseball coach at Ketchum and he says that Mullins is a great kid and a solid baseball player.

“He is a hard worker and very coachable,” Knoten said. “He is looking to play at the next level. Rowdy will be a three-year starter at shortstop, pitches, and bats leadoff.”

His leadership role has been a direct influence of Coach Knoten. Mullins says, “Coach Knoten has helped with my game a lot in baseball with the mindset and hitting.”

Rowdy is a three-sport athlete lettering in basketball, baseball, and recently, track. He is a natural athlete with a natural approach to the game and his academic discipline.

“Right now, my future plan is to play college baseball if that’s what the Lord wants me to do.”
