Vinita Hornets 2023 Football Team Preview – Presented by Patrick Kauffman – Shelter Insurance

VINITA HORNETS

Coach: COOPER MITCHELL

8-3

OFFENSE

The Hornets are coming off of a solid season a year ago that saw them advance to the first round of the Class 3A playoffs. But as they enter this new season under their new head coach, Cooper Mitchell, they will look to make a run to the postseason. Leading the offense at quarterback is Gunner Huffman (6-0, 170, Jr.). Joining him in the backfield will be Denny Bollin (5-10, 170, Sr.), who will look for running lanes and try to get to the open field. Bodee Carter (6-2, 170, Jr.), Jett Ogdon (5-10, 170, Sr.), and Ethan Stephens (5-10, 160, So.) will be targets for Huffman on the outside at wide receiver. Anchoring the offensive line will be Carter Falling (6-3, 260, Jr.), who has put in the work and will be a key to slowing down opposing defenses. Mitchell’s approach to his offense is simple. “We look to get a bunch of guys touches and let athletes be athletes,” the coach said.

DEFENSE

When the Hornet defense takes the field, Mitchell looks for his guys to play hard and fast and get to the ball. Linebacker Bo Bennett (5-10, 175, Jr.) has worked hard and is ready to play a big role this season. Three guys that will cause opponents problems will be offensive linemen Devon Morgan (6-1, 210, Sr.), Logan Cornwell (5-10, 230, Jr.), and Dylan Allen (5-10, 200, Jr.). They are ready to do work in the trenches and keep the opponents from advancing the ball. Trey Tanner (5-10, 160, So.) will be taking care of things in the secondary.
