Ketchum FFA Spotlight

Waylon Carriger

Ketchum High School

A two-sport student-athlete at Ketchum High School, Waylon Carriger is a junior who is looking forward to taking the field with the football and baseball teams this season.

On the football team, Carriger is a starting defensive end who recorded 73 tackles and eight sacks as a sophomore.

“I love the aggressive atmosphere of football,” Carriger said. “I love how our team holds each other accountable.”

Carriger is more than just a student-athlete at Ketchum. He is a member of the Student Council and a member of the FFA chapter at school.

“I got into FFA in the eighth grade,” Carriger said. “Two of my friends were both in FFA before me and so I think that kind of encouraged me to join.”

As a member of the FFA chapter at Ketchum, Carriger is involved in several activities that involve sports and livestock.

“Shooting sports is the thing I enjoy the most about being in FFA,” said Carriger. “I’m involved in shooting sports, cattle grading and meat judging.”

Carriger said anyone interested in becoming a member of the FFA chapter should do it.

“Don’t think twice, just jump in and do it,” said Carriger.

The junior said his parents have always supported him and he is grateful for them.

“My parents because they always support my decisions and what goes into them. My plans are to be a diesel tech somewhere in Oklahoma,” said Carriger. Carriger and the Warriors will face Chouteau on Aug. 18th followed by Canadian on the 25th. The first home game for the Warriors is Aug. 31st against Chelsea, which is followed by another home game against Liberty on Sept. 8th. The last game of the regular season is on the road at Fairland on Nov. 3rd. Look for Carriger and his Warrior teammates this season as they look to improve on their 5-5 record from a year ago.
