By Payton Moody
Victoria Gonzalez, a talented high school student at Grove High School, has been making a mark in the world of softball.

With a passion for the sport and an unwavering determination, Gonzalez has garnered the support of her coaches, teammates and family, propelling her towards success both on and off the field.

Throughout her softball journey, Gonzalez has been fortunate to have had two favorite coaches, Jeremy Collins and Chad Ross. Both coaches played a significant role in her development as a player, pushing her to be better and encouraging her to persevere even when faced with challenges. “They both have
pushed me to be better, to continue fighting even when I didn’t believe I had any more in me,” she said.

Gonzalez’s admiration and gratitude extend to her teammates as well.

During her sophomore year, she found inspiration in three seniors: Sage Jackson, Annsleigh Morris and
Cayden Hollingsworth. Their support and leadership left a lasting impact on Gonzalez, both on the ball field and in life.

Preparation and dedication are the keys to success in any sport, and Gonzalez understands this well. This off-season, she kept honing her skills by constantly staying involved in the game, ensuring that she got the necessary repetitions to be ready for the upcoming season.

Softball has taught Gonzalez important life lessons that she applies daily.

“Softball has taught me that things don’t always go my way no matter how hard I try,” Gonzalez said. “And I always have my friends and family right behind me to help me through my journey.”

As the new season approaches, Gonzalez has both individual and team goals in mind.

Individually, she aims to keep improving and rising as a player. As for her team, she is excited about
the journey and is looking forward to the challenge of competing in the 5A division.

“We moved up to 5A this year and honestly I’m not sure what game I’m most excited for,” Gonzalez said “All of these teams should be fun to play.” Regarding future plans, Gonzalez aspires to pursue higher education and attain a master’s degree. Her passion for mental health will lead her into a program dedicated to helping others in that field
