Fairland’s Gracie Riggs Athlete Spotlight Presented by Grand Savings Bank Fairland

Gracin Riggs

Fairland High School

For a decade, Gracin Riggs has called the softball diamond home. As a youth, Riggs started playing the sport that she now plays for Fairland High School.

“I have played softball since I was six years old,” said Riggs. “I am currently a junior at FHS.”

As a multi-sport athlete at FHS, Riggs said the culture at Fairland is supportive and she loves being part of a team where her teammates are more than just people she plays ball with; they are more like family.

“I love being a student-athlete in Fairland because my teammates are also my best friends, we’ve all played softball together since we were in T-ball. We know each other’s strengths and weaknesses. We are always there to support each other and celebrate each other’s success,” said Riggs.

That type of teammate creates great team chemistry and could help propel the team this season.

“My teammates are always there to pick me up when I need it most. They work very hard and always encourage me to continue working hard for my goals and dreams also. They are also my best friends; we have a lot of fun together both on and off the field,” said Riggs. “My goals for this season are to make it back to the state tournament and improve on both offense and defense.”

Riggs is a member of the student council, FCCLA, FCA, and plays basketball, softball (both seasons), and track. Riggs said her favorite class is human growth and development and her favorite teachers are Ms. Shaw and Mrs. Dushane. Riggs hopes to continue playing softball after she graduates from high school while pursuing a career in health care.

As for her game, Riggs said she continues to work and improve her skills.

“I have been continuing to work on my slow pitch hitting. I had a pretty good slow pitch season last year but hope to improve on that this year and be even better.”
