Miami’s Elijah Sanda Athlete Spotlight Presented by NEO Orthopedics & Rehabilitation

Elijah Sanda

Miami High School

Wrestling requires a dedication that pushes the athletes to limits he or she did not know they could reach. For many wrestlers, this has been a way of life since they were very young. Miami High School’s Elijah Sanda is a senior and a member of the varsity wrestling team, but his wrestling story started long before high school.

“I am a senior now, but I started wrestling when I was seven years old,” said Sanda.

Coming into his final year of high school wrestling, Sanda said one goal was to continue improving as a wrestler.

“This season, I have definitely improved in all aspects, especially my technique. My goals for this season are to place at the state tournament while improving myself off and on the mat every day,” said Sanda.

Sanda has found his way to the podium in recent tournaments this season including a 3rd place finish at 126-pounds at the Hilldale Invitational. For Sanda, continuing to improve and making the most of his final season is important as a student-athlete representing his school and community.

“What I love the most about being a student-athlete at Miami is how great my coaches and teammates are,” said Sanda. “What I love the most about my teammates is how supportive we are of each other; we are like a family.”

As a student, Sanda said his favorite subject in school is history and he enjoys all of his teachers. His plans after graduation may include wrestling at the next level.

“After I graduate, I would like to wrestle at the collegiate level while perusing a career in radiology,” said Sanda.

Away from the mat, you can usually find Sanda at the gym or playing tennis.
