The Miami Wardogs have enjoyed a solid season on the mat and one wrestling looking to leave his mark on the program is Kevin Ramirez. Ramirez is a senior and has spent the last five years competing for Miami Public Schools.
“One thing I love about being a student-athlete is the connections I have with my coaches, teammates, and teachers,” said Ramirez.
The goal this season is to become a state qualifier and with the help of his teammates in the wrestling room, Ramirez said they pushed him to work hard and reach his goals.
“What I love most about my teammates is that they never fail to put a smile on my face and the memories we create,” said Ramirez.
To reach his goals, Ramirez said he worked on areas of his skill set, including his mental approach to the season.
“I have improved most on my mentality this season as it is a very important factor in this sport,” said Ramirez.
In the classroom, Ramirez said he enjoys all of his classes, but he does have his favorites.
“My favorite subject has to be Biology because there is so much to learn in that class, and my favorite teacher so happens to be my Biology teacher, Matthew Kaiser,” said Ramirez.
The senior is making plans for life after high school, which will include continuing his education at the next level.
“My goal for after high school is to attend NEO A&M College,” said Ramirez. When he’s not on the mat you can usually find Ramirez doing one of several favorite hobbies including running, lifting weights or simply hanging out with his friends.
