Sophomore track athlete Sutton Smith is looking forward to competing this season and says the team can compete at a high level.

“I’m really excited for the team this season, we have some guys who can really go out and compete at a high level and we all look forward to doing something special this year,” said Smith. “I compete in the 800 meters, the 1600 meters, and the 4×4 relay.”

The support Smith and his teammates receive are a big reason they are confident in their ability to compete.

“The thing I love about being a student-athlete in Miami is probably the support from all of my coaches and teammates to make me the best version of myself that I can be,” said Smith. “The thing I love most about my teammates is the sense of family we have and knowing that we have each other’s backs all the time and being able to compete with each other day in and day out.”

Smith has competed in track since the 6th grade. He is currently a member of the Student Council and FCA at MHS. In the classroom, Smith said his favorite subject is math.

“My favorite subject is probably math, and my favorite teacher is probably Mr. Adams,” said Smith.

After he graduates, Smith said competing in college is something he would like to try.

“If that doesn’t work out, I would like to do something in business or physical therapy,” said Smith.

Away from school you can usually find Smith playing golf and hanging out with friends.
