Fairland’s Makenna Lawson Athlete Spotlight Presented by Grand Savings Bank Fairland

Makenna Lawson

Fairland High School

The No. 7 ranked team is Class 3A has a few games left on the schedule, and most of those are at home. As this team looks to stamp their ticket to post season play, coach Jeni Kline is keeping the team focused on one game at a time.

Makenna Lawson (Jr.) said the team remembers the feeling of going to the state tournament in fastpitch, and the team is ready to make another trip to state.

“I think we’re doing really good. It took us a minute to get back into things but it’s going really well now,” said Lawson.

A softball player since the age of five, Lawson said this group is really close and their chemistry has carried over from the fall season.

“We’re all really close and that makes them all more than just teammates. I love being at Fairland because of the coaches and teachers we have, and I’ve been able to play and go to school with the same group of girls since we were little which has given me lifelong friends and memories,” said Lawson.

One teammate has really impressed Lawson this year.

“Definitely my teammate Alivia Bartley she is supportive and is always doing goofy things that make everyone laugh,” said Lawson.

For now, her favorite memory on the field comes from fastpitch season.

“I think it’s going to state in fastpitch last season because even we didn’t believe that we could and so being able to prove ourselves and everyone else wrong was my favorite memory,” said Lawson.

Also a member of National Honor Society, FCA, FCCLA, Interact Club and STUCO, Lawson plans to attend college and pursue a degree as a social worker.

Away from school, Lawson said she enjoys watching television, and eating some snacks with her dog Koda.
