Wyandotte’s Haley Jones Athlete Spotlight Presented by Eye Care of Grand Lake

Haley Jones

Wyandotte High School

When Wyandotte High School senior Haley Jones takes the field, she does it with a group of teammates who play hard and have fun doing it. Jones said this team has come a long way since the start of the season.

“We’re looking pretty good; we’ve made some key adjustments that’s put us in a good direction,” said Jones.

It wasn’t the start head coach Kinley Carty wanted, but like Jones said, this team has fought back and carry a winning record into the final few games remaining on the schedule.

Jones has played the game of softball for more than a decade and she loves being around her teammates on and off the field. During her freshman and senior years, Jones was a member of the fastpitch team at Wyandotte that made the state tournament.

“I play left center field, and I’ve played softball for almost 11 years now. I love how much we get along and how much fun it is to play with all of them,” said Jones.

The support from the school and community are big reasons why this team feels they can accomplish more this season.

“I love the community and all the support we get as student athletes,” said Jones.

Jones is not the only player making plays this season. She was quick to point to her teammates and speak on their accomplishments as well. From the most serious player to the one who keeps everyone laughing, this team always finds a way to have fun.

“Carley Turner impresses me the most with her get it done attitude and Aly Harding keeps us laughing all the time with her bubbly personality,” said Jones.

Aside from athletics, Jones participates in the gifted and talented program, National Honor Society, and STUCO. Her plans after high school include college, however this summer you are likely to find her working or fishing with friends. “When I graduate, I would like to get accepted into the radiology program at Labette College.  This summer I’m going to get a job and save up for college, but I like to go fishing with my friends in my free time,” said Jones.
