Witton Amos

Fairland High School

Weather can be a third opponent on the football field. For Witton Amos, a game played in the cold sleet is one he will never forget. His first touchdown for Fairland High School was as a freshman playing in the sleet on a Friday night.

Witton and his teammates strive to be the best as they represent FHS. “We have a lot of guys that want to be great, so it isfun to represent a school that loves to compete,” he said.

Now a junior, Witton plays tight end and defensive line. Beyond learning his positions, football has taught Witton discipline and the importance of holding oneself and others accountable. He takes valuable advice with him on the field.“It hurts less when you are the one making the contact, rather than getting hit,” he says.

His favorite part about being on a team is building relationships with everyone on his team. Cason Rentfrow is a teammate who stepped up, leaving a big impression on Witton. “He was like a coach on the field, so he helped me out a lot,” he said.

Football was a family affair growing up. His dad’s passion for sports inspired him to work to his best ability. “I started playing in second grade. Having two older brothers who played football and seeing how passionate they were is why I amso passionate about it now,” said Witton.

A vacation to Hawaii, with his whole family would be the perfect thank you to his mom, dad, and brothers for all the help they have given him through the years.

An athlete he looks up to is San Francisco 49er’s tight end, George Kittle. “He loves contact and has really good routes, so I try to be like him as far as physicality and understanding the game,” he said.

His love for sports extends to powerlifting and track but he has other interests away from athletics. Witton loves history. With Mr. White as his teacher, learning history was even more interesting making him Witton’s favorite teacher.
