Miami’s David Snider – Multi-Sport Spotlight – Presented by NEO Orthopedics & Rehabilitation

David Snider, a 6-foot, 220-pound senior at Miami High School, has big plans for the future.

Snider plays four sports at Miami: football, track & field, wrestling and powerlifting. His goals are to throw shot put and discus professionally.

“It’s not easy. It’s a lot of work,” Snider said, “but I have a lot of passion for just sports in general, and I think that definitely helps reduce the pressure and stress of being a multi-sport athlete. I also look at it like more opportunities for me to succeed at my goal of becoming a professional athlete. What also helps is what I feel is an enormous amount of support and people rooting for me that keeps me going.”

Snider’s athletic career began about 10 years old when he joined the Miami Youth Takedown Club, which kickstarted his involvement in several other sports.

In Snider’s estimation, it will take “an absolutely ridiculous amount of hard work, commitment and dedication” to reach his long-term goals,” but his immediate goals are to go out with a bang at Miami High. He plays defensive end and guard for the Wardogs.

“For football, I want to get around 50 tackles by the end of the season. I play both ways, but I lean more towards defense,” Snider said. “In wrestling, I would love to get to go to state again this year and place. In powerlifting, I want to set the total record in the 220 class. I want to set the state record for shot put and at least place in discus. Academically, just keep my grades passing, preferably As and Bs.”

Snider hasn’t taken it easy on himself this offseason.

“I have to push and push as hard as I possibly can,” Snider said. “I’ve been really working hard. I’ve been trying to stay in the gym, eat good, get my weight up as healthily as I can. Working on foot speed and a bunch of plyometrics.”
