Vinita’s Brooklin Phillips – Softball Spotlight – Eyecare of Grand Lake

Brooklin Phillips is a senior at Vinita High School, where she is a member of the school’s softball team. Throughout her career, she has worked hard to be her best, not just on the field, but also off the field.

“I have never been on a team that wins big tournaments or better yet even makes it to a championship game,” Phillips said. “But I’ve been on teams that inspire me to be the best I can be. I’ve made some great friends along the way and I’ve learned that being the winner or ‘best’ doesn’t always determine your greatness. I believe that throughout my softball career I have faced a lot of defeat, More defeat than success. But I believe it has made me the determined and confident softball player and person I am today. So I would say just the drive to be better every time you step on the field. To let the last mistake go and focus on the goal ahead.”

Along with playing softball for the Hornets, she is also a member of the varsity pom squad and she is a trainer for the Vinita football team.

There have been a number of people in her life that have helped Brooklin become the person that she is today. She says that she would not be who she is today without them.

“My biggest role model is my mom,” she stated. “I look up to her because of how strong and dedicated she is with anything and everything she does. The teacher who has had the biggest impact on me has been my instructor at Northeast Tech, Mrs. Stephens. She’s been so helpful in getting me to where I need to go while also creating a supportive and safe environment for me.”

While she and her teammates are always ready to compete against whoever is on the schedule, Phillips has one opponent that stands out as her favorite to beat.

“My favorite opponent to beat is Stillwell because Vinita has always been the underdog to most teams so being able to beat a team that has defeated us for many years prior is a great accomplishment.”
