Q&A with Vinita’s Josie Henry – Cheer Spotlight – Presented by Welch State Bank

VYPE: Josie, as a member of the varsity cheer team at Vinita High School, what are your responsibilities on the mat and field and what are you working on this most? 

Josie Henry: I am a back-spot. I have been trying to improve on my technique and sharpness.

VYPE: What have you seen from the team so far this season? 

JH: We have lots of successful cheerleaders, many of which are freshman, they have a lot to learn but they will get it. 

VYPE: Who keeps everyone laughing and who is the most serious? 

JH: Ella Tyrrell keeps everyone going and laughing, I believe the most serious is Harley Hayes.
 

VYPE: What makes VHS such a great place to be a student-athlete? 

JH: There is many opportunities available to you and you will always be pushed to be your best. 
 

VYPE: How do you prepare yourself for competition? 

JH: I mentally prepare by giving myself a day to rest and relaxing while also reviewing material.
 

VYPE: Do you have a favorite subject in school? Who is your favorite teacher? 

JH: My favorite subject is English, and my favorite teacher who will give you the best advice is Mr. Antwine.

VYPE: What is the best advice you’ve ever received? 

JH: The best advice I’ve ever received is, just play the game and have fun don’t worry about anything else.
 
 VYPE: What is your favorite memory as a student-athlete? 

JH: My favorite memory is wrestling at state. It was a once in a lifetime opportunity that I got to do!
 

VYPE: What are your plans for life after high school? 
 JH: I am preparing to be a pediatrician.
