Fairland Boys Basketball Team Spotlight – Presented by Grand Savings Bank Fairland

FAIRLAND OWLS

BOYS

Coach: Justin Goins

23-24 Record: 21-7

OUTLOOK

The future is bright for the Fairland Owls as head coach Justin Goins returns a solid nucleus of players to the lineup this season.

“The team returns four starters and have five other players coming back who have seen quality playing time. Sprinkle in some transfers and freshmen and the recipe is there for success. They have big goals for this season,” said Goins.

One player the Owl faithful loves to see play is Markeen Webb (5-9, Sr.) at guard. Webb is a three-year starter and brings a ton of athleticism to the floor. Last season he averaged 13 points and 3.0 steals a game. Nick O’Neal (6-5, Sr.) is the only other senior on the team and will see time at forward.

Carson Schertz (6-4, Jr.) is a scoring machine at guard. Schertz averaged 18 points and 10 rebounds a game last year. Both Schertz and Webb are VYPE Top 100 selectees. A versatile player, Schertz can play all give positions. Blake Murry (6-0, Jr.) is another guard to watch this season. Murry averaged 8.0 points, 6.0 rebounds and 2.0 steals as a sophomore.

Colt Kinsey (6-2, Jr.) is a “team” guy who will do anything to pick up the win. Kinsey averaged 8.0 points with 6.0 rebounds last season. Also look for Max Stephens (5-9, Jr.) who adds depth and is solid on both ends of the court.

Kyndric Wickliffe (6-5, Jr.) will see time at forward where he averaged 2.0 points with 2.0 rebounds as a sophomore. Other players to watch include Clay McCoin (6-2, Jr.), Bostyn Stephens (5-8, So.), Quinnton Webb (5-8, So.), and Carter Ramsey (6-4, So.). Stephens is a transfer and could be the X-factor for the Owls this season. Webb is a competitor with great handles and a passion for the game.
