VYPE: Zayne, what grade are you in this year and what age did you start playing basketball?
Zayne Henderson: I am in the 10th grade, and I started playing at the age of eight.
VYPE: What other sports do you play for the Jay Bulldogs?
ZH: I also do football and track.
VYPE: What are some of your strengths when competiting and what did you improve on the most this season?
ZH: The strength in my skill set on the basketball court is my wingspan. I improved on my defense.
VYPE: What do you love most about your team and teammates?
ZH: Definitely the familiarity because everyone knows everyone.
VYPE: What makes being a student-athlete difficult?
ZH: The stress.
VYPE: The support you and your teammates get from parents, coaches and fans; what does that mean to you?
ZH: Everything, when I go onto the court or onto the field, I know that someone is there rooting for me and it makes everything easier.
VYPE: How do you prepare yourself for competition?
ZH: I listen to music before every game no matter what sport and get mentally prepared.
VYPE: What do you love most about your teammates?
ZH: How they have my back no matter what.
VYPE: What are your plans for life after high school?
ZH: Either go to college or go serve in the military.
VYPE: Who inspires you?
ZH: I would have to say my mom, she has fought so many hard battles and it inspires me.
VYPE: What accomplishment are you most proud of as a student-athlete?
ZH: Accomplishment I’m most proud about is winning the 9th grade basketball district title with my friends.
