AFTON EAGLES
Coach: COREY HENRY
3-7
OFFENSE
Coach Corey Henry said he saw something in his team last season that hopefully translates to the 2024 season. “Last year’s team showed a lot of toughness and dedication. We really turned the corner with our defensive game. They were a very competitive group that will help us grow into this next year. The core of leadership at Afton is strong. We have great kids that bleed orange that will battle for each other,” said Henry. Running the spread offense for coach Henry is Brady Robinson (6-0, 175, Sr.). Robinson has a clear understanding of the offense and is like another coach on the field. One of his top targets is Zander Mace (5-8, 160, Sr.). Mace is a quick, crisp route runner and who worked hard to be the go-to target in the passing game. The offensive line could be the strength of the team. Ricky Barton (5-10, 165, So.), Sawyer Mahurin (5-9, 210), Tristan Gibson (6-2, 250, So.), and Carter Landrum (5-8, 175, Fr.) make a solid group up front for the Eagles. Also look for newcomer Brice Noblin (5-7, 180, Fr.) on the line.
DEFENSE
The Eagles will base in the 3-5 with several starting jobs open. “We gradated several multi- year starters. Getting new guys prepared in those roles that are young will be a learning curve. Our goal is to always but a competitive product on the field. We expect to be successful on and off the field,” said Henry. Alex Snell (5-9, 150, Sr.) is part of an athletic and mature secondary that also features Robinson and Mace. Up front the Eagles want Kendall Landrum (5-10, 150, So.) and Jeffery Shandy (5-7, 215, So.) to pressure the opposing QB from their positions on the defensive line. The coaching staff includes Dusty Henry, Brooks Victor, Eli Carr, and Shell Henry.
