OUTLOOK
When the nucleus of a team returns to the court after a success campaign the year before, they are almost always hungry for more. That can be said for the Owls of Fairland High School and head coach Justin Goins.
“Excited about this year, we return three of our five starters and eight of our top 10 players from last years state semifinal team. The players have worked really hard in the offseason with a goal to get back to the state tournament,” coach Goins said.
The point production of Carson Schertz (6-4, Sr.) is huge. Last season he averaged 14.5 points with 7.7 rebounds and 4.5 assists per game. A four-year starter, Schertz was All-Region as a junior and topped 1,100 points for his career. Colt Kinsey (6-4, Sr.) is another combo player who averaged 7.2 points, 4.2 rebounds and shot 77% from the free throw line. A three-year starter, Kinsey can play any position on the floor.
Max Stephens (5-9, Sr.) is the type of guard every team needs. Stephens averaged 9.1 points and 2.1 rebounds last season and is a leader on the floor. Stephens will do anything to help his team win. Blake Murry (6-0, Sr.) averaged 5.7 points, 3.2 rebounds and 1.6 steals a game last year and is looking to add more in his final year of prep basketball.
Carter Ramsey (6-5, Jr.) is another player expected to have a big year. Ramsey averaged 4.1 points and 3.2 rebounds as a sophomore. Other players to watch include Quintonn Webb (5-9, Jr.) at guard, Lane Handrich (6-3, Jr.) at guard or forward, Bostyn Stephens (5-9, Jr.) at guard, Brady Kinsey (5-9, So.) at guard, Jacob Nichols (5-11, So.) at forward and Ryder Heilig (5-10, So.) at guard.
