Grove High School

When the Grove Ridgerunners take the field this season, Josh Gesell will be one of the standout players on the Grove defense. The starting linebacker had a great junior year accounting for 83 total tackles with two sacks, five tackles for loss and two fumble recoveries to his credit.

Gesell said there are many reasons why he loves being a student-athlete at Grove High School.

“You have athletes here that will push you and hold you accountable. Not only that but the school is great because of the teachers. There’s a culture in it all, everyone here pushes you and makes you better,” said Gesell.

Football has always been one of his favorite sports, but Gesell said he also loves wrestling and track. All three sports require hard work to get better, and it’s the hard work that Gesell loves the most.

“The amount of hard work we all put in and knowing that we have each other’s back is what I love most about this team. I want our class to be remembered for our hard work and the accomplishments from said hard work,” said Gesell.

The senior mentioned teammates Scott Cox and Jackson Gain as two players to watch this season. But everyone is excited to play Collinsville this season.

“I’m excited to play Collinsville because they are a good and competitive team,” said Gesell.

When his time at Grove comes to an end, Gesell said he plans on joining the U.S. Navy and eventually earn a degree in the medical field. Gesell said his favorite subject in school in biology, making the medical field an obvious choice.
The senior said he looks forward to helping the new players and proving Grove football is here to stay.“I’m excited to prove to everyone that Grove High School has and will always have the best football,” said Gesell.
