With the season underway, many teams are starting to get in the groove of their schedule and looking forward to pushing through December and into the heart of their schedules in January. With a tough schedule ahead, the Grove Ridgerunners will rely on the play of guys like Jackson Gain, a 6-foot-4 forward who is entering his junior season.

Gain said the team has worked hard in preparation for the long season and they are making strides in the right direction despite losing the first two games of the season to good basketball teams.

“The team is working well together and looking better every practice,” said Gain.

Gain was quick to point out a couple of teammates who are making an impact early.

“Two players to watch are Tucker Brodrick and Briggs Fink. Brodrick’s shooting game is getting better every day and even though he is only a freshman, Briggs Fink is an outstanding player,” said Gain.

Coach Zach Trimble has this to say about his junior forward.

“Jackson is a wonderful kid on and off the floor. He plays three sports. We’re expecting big things from his this year on the basketball floor.”

As a team, Gain said everyone is pushing and supporting one another to get better and to make this a season they will be proud of come tournament time.

“What I love about this team is they are very encouraging, and they push me to make me a better player. My goal is to improve my skills for the upcoming season,” said Gain.

Last season as a sophomore, Gain averaged 10 points and 5.0 rebounds a game. This season Gain is looking to increase those numbers and make a larger impact on the team this year.

“I love the coaches and how they treat our athletes. I love the attitude of my teammates and how we push each other through challenging times,” said Gain.

While basketball is his focus, Gain said his favorite subject in school is math and his favorite teacher is Mrs. Smith. Gain plans to become more involved in other groups and clubs at school, but for now his focus remains on basketball and the other two sports he plays at Grove. One day Gain hopes to attend college and pursue a degree.

“I would love to attend NEO and become an RN,” said Gain.

Away from the court, Gain said he enjoys spending time with family and friends.
