Athletes invest a lot of hard work and effort into becoming the best they can be. Along with all that work, they also depend on those around them for support and encouragement along the journey. Abigail Osterberger has a few people that have been influential in her life.
“There is not any one person I can say look up to the most,” she said. “I have been blessed to be given the best role models such as my mom, dad, my brother Xander, and my sisters Lauren and Kat. They mean the world to me and are my biggest inspirations.”
Abigail is a sophomore at Afton High School, where she is a member of the basketball, track, cross country, and cheer. Outside of sports, she is also a member of the Student Council, Interact Club, Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America, and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.
The track team at Afton is something that Osterberger enjoys being a part of. It has also allowed her to make some great memories with her teammates and her sister.
“I believe the best part about playing sports in high school is personal growth and memories,” she said. “Sports have reinforced my work ethic and how to strive toward a goal. This will benefit me greatly in the future. My favorite memory was the 2022 state track meet where I got the honor of participating in the 1600m relay. During that race, I got to make a core memory of handing off the baton to our anchor, who was also my sister. My teammates and I watched as Kat crossed the finish line, as we broke our school record and while also taking third place.”
The team that she is surrounded with has each played an important role in her life and in her becoming the person that she is today. And she also says that there is one teammate that keeps her focused and motivated.
“My teammates mean so much to me,” she said. “They always have positive reinforcement and encouragement. I am truly blessed to be surrounded by such outstanding people. My favorite competitor is my sister Kat. Though most of our completion takes place at practice, she pushes me to be my best self and become a stronger competitor for my team.”
