Afton High School basketball player Hannah Ferris is a sophomore this year and has helped the team to a great start winning eight games in December. The Lady Eagles are ranked No. 15 in Class 2A under head coach Bobby Shinn.
The sophomore said her teammates have been great and she loves competing with them on the court.
“What I love most about my teammates is they are very encouraging and supportive. Always willing to help you with anything and are just fun people to be around,” said Ferris.
When she’s not on the court, Ferris can be found participating in FFA, which she officially joined when she was in the 8 th grade, thanks to some encouragement from a family member.
“My brother [Tyler] got me involved in FFA. He was ahead of me in school, and I got into FFA because I wanted to be like him,” said Ferris. “What I love most about being in FFA is going to Judging contests, and how friendly and respectful everyone is in FFA. Even people from other chapters.”
There are many activities Ferris is involved in despite not showing livestock.
“I do as many chapter activities as I can, but other than that I do opening ceremonies in the fall and vet science as my judging contest in the spring,” said Ferris.
Also a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Ferris said anyone interested in FFA should give it a try.
“I would tell them to go for it. You meet so many wonderful people and there’s all sorts of activities and contests you can do,” said Ferris.
Ferris said her parents and brother have been a big influence in her life and she hopes to one day become a veterinarian.
