COMMERCE TIGERS

Coach: LOGAN CAWYER

3-7

OFFENSE

When the Tigers take this field this season under head coach Logan Cawyer, it will be with seven starters from last seasons team. Coach Cawyer said they are young but making strides in the right direction. “We are a young team that is ready to start doing things the right way. They have been more consistent this summer in the weight room and have bought in to working hard. I’m excited to see what we can do this season,” said coach Cawyer. Seth Bonham (6-2, 215, Jr.) anchors the offensive line for the Tigers which will use multiple formations from the spread to 22-personnel packages. Juan Gomez (5-9, 165, Jr.) is the go-to target in the passing game when the Tigers are in the spread and looking to pitch the ball downfield. Tight end Jonas Shelton (6-1, 185, Sr.) also figures into the passing game and has developed into a solid blocker in the run game. Brodie Simmons (6-0, 230, Sr.) and Garret Osburn (5-11, 265, Sr.) join Bonham on the offensive line, shoring up what could develop into one of the top units in the district. Keep an eye on Izayah Williams (Fr.) a young, exciting running back with explosiveness out of the backfield.

DEFENSE

Like the offense, seven starters return to the defensive side of the ball, which will include two-way starter Bonham on the defensive line. The Tigers will use a 3-man and 4-man front to help free up Bonham so he can do what he does best, which is disrupt the opposing offense. “Seth works hard on and off the field. Committed himself to the weight room this spring and summer. Excited about what he can do these next two seasons,” said coach Cawyer. If trying to stop Bonham at defensive end wasn’t tough enough, add Cooper Trease (6-3, 210, So.) at the opposite end where his speed and range come into play. Evan Hart (6-0, 245, Sr.) gives the Tigers another physical player in the interior of the line, which should allow the linebackers the opportunity to see the play develop and get after the running backs. Brody Jones (6-1, 190, Sr.) and Landon Hart (5-10, 165, So.) are two linebackers who will get after the ball and are athletic enough to help in pass coverage. The Tigers will use multiple looks in the secondary to keep quarterbacks guessing. Chase McDonald (6-0, 175, So.) will lead the way in the defensive backfield and will help younger player mature into their roles on defense. Another player to watch is Kourtlan Merrill (Fr.) and is someone coach Cawyer expects to find a way onto the field.
