Fairland Owls – 2023 Football Team Preview – Presented by Grand Savings Bank Fairland

FAIRLAND OWLS

Coach: JIMMY HUDSON

6-5

OFFENSE

As is the case with a number of teams across the state, the Owls will have some holes to fill this season that were left by graduation. Head coach Jimmy Hudson will look for guys to step up and help create a successful season. “We will be replacing eight seniors who played vital roles on both sides of the ball in 2022,” he said. “We have a good core of skill position players coming back but will need some youngsters to step in and fill the voids on the offensive and defensive lines.” Leading the charge for the Owls will be a host of solid receivers. Blake Murray (5-8, 145, So.), Carson Rentfrow(5-8, 175, Sr.), Logan Sparks (5-8, 145, So.), and Brennan Austin (6-2, 175, Sr.) combined for 1,027 and eleven touchdowns last year. They will work to be a force for opposing defenses. Carson Schertz runs the offense at quarterback (6-3, 185, So.). He passed for 1,567 yards, rushed for 598 yards, and had 23 total touchdowns. Tight end Witton Amos (6-1, 255, So.) will look to play a bigger role this season, even though a lot of his contributions to the team do not show up on the stat sheet.

DEFENSE

The defense is built around pressuring the opposing offense all game. Working to cause problems up front will be Xavier Gaston (6-0, 205, Jr.). A stable of linebackers have put in a lot of work in the offseason and are ready to hit the field. Hunter Kosted (6-0, 230, Sr.), Connor Munson (6-0, 185, Sr.), and Sam Lollar (5-9, 185, Sr.) racked up a total of 143 tackles last season. In the secondary, Mar’Keen Webb (5-8, 155, Jr.) had four pass break ups and an interception at defensive back.
