Student-athletes at Fairland High School are proud to represent their school and classmates in competition. Varsity basketball player Avery Anderson is no different. From the community to the faculty and staff, Anderson said being part of the Fairland family is what it’s all about.
“I’m very proud of being a student-athlete at Fairland High School. The thing I love the most is the community support and the family atmosphere,” said Anderson.
Entering her junior year and coming off a softball season where she plays first base, Anderson is excited to get back in the gym and on the court where she is a forward for head coach David Lampton.
“The thing I love most about my teammates is our friendship and the fact that all of us celebrate each other’s success. The goal this season is to just keep getting better every game, to play hard, and learn to play together,” said Anderson.
As the team gets the early games under their belts and begins to find their identity, Anderson is confident this team will come together and have a good season.
“We have no seniors on the team this year and quite a few girls who don’t have a ton of experience, so we are learning to play together and continuing to figure things out. We also have a new coach this year, Coach Lampton, so we are learning how he wants things done. Coach Lampton is very encouraging and patient with us and I think that will pay off in a big way as the year goes on,” said Anderson.
Anderson’s involvement in school activities is not limited to sports. The junior is involved in the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, FCCLA, National Honor Society, gifted and talented, and interact club. Like many of her peers, she does have a favorite subject.
“My favorite subject in school English, and my favorite teachers are Mrs. Shaw, our chemistry teacher, and Mrs. Johnson, our English teacher. They’re both good teachers and will always take the time to explain things however many times you need,” said Anderson. After graduation in 2025, Anderson said she would like to attend Missouri Southern and pursue a career as a radiology technician. In her free time, Anderson enjoys hanging out with friends, being with her family, and taking a good nap.
