JAY BULLDOGS
Coach: TRAVIS EAST
4-7
OFFENSE
The Bulldog offense returns several key players to the lineup this season under head coach Travis East. Coach East said the team has a solid group of seniors he will lean on this year. “We return eight starters on both sides of the football. We will be loaded with many experienced seniors, ready to take the next step toward a competitive and successful season,” said coach East. A tough schedule will challenge the Bulldogs, but with guys like Armando Newcomb (Sr.) at wide receiver, the ability to stretch the field and hit big plays is always present. Newcomb returns after suffering an injury last season and is expected to have a great season. “We will do multiple things offensively, both running and throwing the ball. Our philosophy is the get the ball to as many athletes as possible and allow them to go make plays,” said coach East. That includes using quarterback Leland Johnson (Sr.) in multiple ways and depending on a pair of running backs in Michael Rogers (Jr.) and Ryan Taylor (Sr.) to produce those tough yards in the run game. With every offense, the line is key, and the Bulldogs have two seniors anchoring the front five. Tayten Reece (Sr.) and Gabe Shrum (Sr.). Their play will set the tone for the Bulldog offense.
DEFENSE
Newcomb is a two-way starter and someone who has the speed and physicality to play linebacker. Look for the defense to mix things up on the line and give guys like Newcomb the opportunity to read and react to the play unfolding in front of him. Zane Henderson (Jr.) is one of several defensive linemen the Bulldogs will turn loose this season. Henderson is joined up from by Tyler Murray (Sr.) and Reece. “We will do multiple things defensively as well, mixing up our fronts and coverages. Defensively, we will play with great intensity and relentless pursuit of the football,” said coach East. Shrum will join Newcomb at linebacker giving the defense a true run stopper in the middle of the defense. Also look for Kenan Garcia (Sr.) to start in the secondary. Garcia is quick and dependable. A few holes were filled during spring ball and team camp, but as the season approaches, look for a few younger players to step up and earn spots in the lineup. The coaching staff consists of Jake Everett, Matt Williams, Matt Amos, David Gilstrap, Blake Corn, and Dylan Thurber.
