Fairland’s Fallon Kinsey – Basketball Spotlight

Fairland’s Fallon Kinsey

As the new basketball season arrives, players like Fairland High School’s Fallon Kinsey has worked all summer putting up shots and working on her game. Only a freshman, Kinsey plays the position of point guard and is expected to come in and help the Lady Owls. Kinsey said she loves being part of this team and is excited to get on the court.

“I love that we support each other both on and off the court,” Kinsey said.

Athletics are in the DNA of the Kinsey family. Both parents have an athletics background and Kinsey said she they have taught her what it means to be committed to the journey and embracing the work it takes to reach your goals.

“I would say that I get my athleticism from both parents.  They have taught me to work hard and dedicate the time outside of practices to get better,” Kinsey said.

Coach Jacob Wilson, head coach the Lady Owls, said Kinsey is the product of two outstanding athletes.

” Fallon is a product of two very athletic parents one of which was drafted into the MLB. She is fast, strong, and very coachable. Fallon has a ton of potential to grow in this system and take over in her sophomore or junior year. By her senior year she will be a top player in her class,” Wilson said.

But Kinsey is focused on what she can do now to help her teammates and learn from the upperclassmen.

“I look up to my current teammate, Calli Moncada. She is a senior this year, so I have witnessed her resilience over the years. She’s a reliable teammate on and off the court,” said Kinsey. “My brother Colt Kinsey inspires me. He is a senior this year, and I have watched him work hard and put in the extra time to play at the next level.”

Aside from basketball, Kinsey is involved in several activities around campus including STUCO, FCCLA, Fellowship of Christian Athletes and track.

When the Lady Owls go on the road, they will face some stiff competition, but Kinsey said there is one road game that’s always a tough place to play.

“I believe a tough place to play will be Dale this year, they have proven to be one of the toughest teams in the state,” Kinsey said.

To mentally prepare for those tough games, Kinsey said she will pray and listen to inspirational music to get her motivated.

As for her future at Fairland High School and beyond, Kinsey said she is focused on making the most of every opportunity at FHS before turning her attention to life after high school.

“After high school, I would like to be a pediatric nurse and help kids,” Kinsey said.
