Now that her junior year has come to an end, Fairland High School’s Jaylee Campbell is ready to enjoy her final year as a senior. Campbell is a member of the varsity softball team and a member in FFA.
“My family has always been very involved in FFA, and growing up I was very involved in 4-H. I first got involved in FFA myself in eighth grade. My ag teacher took to me to a vet science contest and from there I fell in love with organization. My dad was in FFA when he was in high school, and my older brother was too. My former ag teacher, Mr. Hankins played a huge role in getting me involved. He always pushed me to do as much as possible,” said Campbell.
Also a member of the basketball team, track, National Honor Society, FCA, STUCO, and GT, Campbell said there are many things she loves about all her activities. In FFA, is about the organization and the opportunity to meet new people.
“My favorite thing about being in FFA is the people. This organization has brought me so many friendships that I cherish, and it has led me to meet so many great people,” Campbell said. “Within the chapter I have been on the officer team these past two years, and I’m fortunate enough to serve the chapter this year as chapter president. My favorite FFA activity would be vet science. I have also participated in some cattle grading.”
Playing fastpitch and slow-pitch softball takes up a lot of her time, and Campbell said she loves being around her teammates and seeing their hard work pay off
“I would say what I love most about my teammates and is how much they care for their teammates. We have all played together since we were young, and we really are each other’s family. I would say that this plays a huge factor into the success we have. I am so fortunate to be on a team filled with girls who pick their teammates up and put the team before themselves. My favorite memory from my junior year would be making it to state in slow pitch for the first time in school history,” said Campbell.
The senior offers this advice to anyone curious about FFA and what the program has to offer.
“I would tell them to just do it! It’s such an amazing organization filled with people who want to pour into you. FFA has given me so many incredible memories and friendships,” said Campbell.
