Armando Newcomb – Jay High School Football
By Trina Walker
As football season approaches the anticipation for the Jay Bulldogs to take the field grows. From players and coaches to parents and community leaders, the football field is a place where dreams are built and passion for the game runs deep.
Armando Newcomb, a junior on the Jay High School football team, is ready for the 2024 season. His favorite part of representing JHS as a student-athlete is the support and love he gets back from his school and the community. Armando says he is passionate about football because it is a team sport that brings the community together and builds a loyal fan base.
When asked what his favorite part about being on a team is, Armando says it is having the opportunity every day to be involved with a group of friends who have come together with the same goals. Bonds amongst teammates strengthen as players work together striving for the same outcome.
“Football became not just a sport for me, but a way of life. Playing football growing up has taught me many valuable life lessons. It has taught me the importance of hard work and dedication. It also helped with my decision-making and problem-solving skills,” said Armando.
Armando’s success on the field comes from his athleticism, skill, and dedication to his sport but he also gives credit to those around him who have supported and pushed him to keep working. “I want to thank my family, friends, and coaches for being a part of my career,” he says.
While football is Armando’s number one sport, he also represents JHS on their wrestling and track teams.
