If you’re looking for a crowd favorite this season for the Jay Bulldogs, look no further than Wylie Robertson. Robertson previously played football in middle school before taking a break. Now that he’s a senior, Robertson is back on the field for the Bulldogs.

“I started playing this year and I knew it was the sport for me when I got my first tackle in practice,” said Robertson.

Robertson has played basketball and competed with the track team in previous years, but head coach Eddie Barnwell said Robertson had a great spring.

“He had a great spring in football and will be a force at outside linebacker, as well as being able to play a number of positions on offense,” said coach Barnwell.

As for the team, Robertson said the team is full of strong leaders with excellent coaches.

“The team adjusted to the new schemes very quickly and there are strong leaders on the team. The coaches are some of the most caring people I know. They not only cheer you on in sports they do not coach you in, but they also just cheer you on in life,” said Robertson. “I enjoy the intensity and the teammates I play with.”

Being on the team is more than just playing football for Robertson.

“They have been my closest friends since I was young. They are hardworking and push everyone on the team to be better. I just want to win games on our brand-new football field and make the town of Jay proud,” said Robertson.

Football isn’t the only focus for Robertson. He is working hard in the classroom to reach his goal of attending college.

“I have high aspirations intellectually, so I have kept my grades up and made good test scores to give me a great chance of going to Oklahoma State University and majoring in Chemical Engineering,” said Robertson.

Robertson said he draws inspiration from a close family member.

“I feel like my father is my inspiration he is the most hardworking man I know and he prides himself on his ability to take care of his family and I hope to be like him one day,” said Robertson.
