Superintendent Spotlight – Joy Taylor, Ketchum Public Schools

In 2017, Joy Taylor accepted the position of Superintendent of Ketchum Public Schools, and she has not looked back. We caught up with Joy Taylor to learn more about her journey and what she loves about the work.

VYPE: What was your position prior to taking the job?

Joy Taylor: Before becoming the superintendent, I was the elementary principal at Ketchum.

VYPE: What do you enjoy most about working as the Superintendent of Ketchum PS?

JT: Because I am involved at each level of school, I am granted a bird’s eye view, which allows me to watch the students grow and flourish over the years and witness the overall impact made by our public school.

VYPE: Did you have a mentor or someone you could lean on for advice during your career?

JT: My mentor is Dr. Judi Barber. Dr. Barber has been in education for over 50 years and has taught me so many valuable leadership and life lessons.

VYPE: Most rewarding part of the job is…

JT: When I see our students, despite the challenges they may face, overcome and grow into successful adults, knowing that in some way, the school family had a part in that.

VYPE: Your message to the students at KHS?

JT: Don’t let your current circumstances define your future success.

VYPE: What does the future of education look like for Ketchum Public Schools?

JT: The future of Ketchum Schools is extremely bright! Our 2A school offers a variety of activities and career-based opportunities for students to experience. From Aviation and show choir to our Biomedical and athletic training programs, students can begin preparing for future careers in a variety of ways. Our elementary facilities were recently remodeled, and we built a new middle school and administrative buildings. This spring, we will begin building new athletic dressing rooms, bathrooms and concessions for all our athletic fields. Go Warriors!
