VYPE: Where did you go to high school? When did you graduate? What sports did you play?
Davis: I graduated from Picher-Cardin High School in 1997. I played football, did powerlifting, and ran track.
VYPE: Where did you start your coaching career? What sports have you coached?
Davis: I started my career coaching football at Picher in 2006. I was hired at NEO A&M College in 2007 to coach defensive backs. Then I was promoted to Director of Football Operations in 2014. I coached there for almost ten years and won two conference championships.
VYPE: Do you have a coaching or teaching mentor? Someone you have looked up to for advice.
Davis: My high school coach Willie Ng. I still reach out to him for advice in several areas. He is a great mentor for me.
VYPE: What is the message to athletes at Miami under your guidance and leadership?
Davis: Must win in the classroom first. Take care of the little things because they add up to become big things. Take pride in playing for the name on the front of the jersey, but never forget who you represent with the name on the back.
VYPE: Where is your favorite place to eat dinner? What’s your choice from the menu?
Davis: Whiskey Cake Kitchen & Bar in Oklahoma City. Best chicken & waffles ever. In Miami, we have several great places to choose from. If I had to pick a favorite I’d say The Winner’s Circle Restaurant inside the Stables Casino. Favorite order there is the Chicken Parm.
VYPE: What are your hobbies? What do you enjoy doing most during your free time?
Davis: Golf is my one and only hobby. Family time is what I enjoy the most in my free time.
VYPE: What is your favorite sports team from the college or pro ranks?
Davis: I am a huge Atlanta Braves and Dallas Cowboys fan
VYPE: What is your all-time favorite movie?
Davis: Major League
VYPE: What was the first music concert? When, where and who was the artist?
Davis: 1992 when I was 12 years old. It was the group Alabama. They performed in the amphitheater in Silver Dollar City in Branson, MO.
VYPE: Tell me what you have come to love the most about Miami, your athletes and where the athletic program is headed
Davis: The support our kids get from the Miami community is tremendous. Our teams never have to worry about not getting support where they need it. Our athletes are very coachable and driven. We look forward to continuing to build the programs in a positive way.
