AFTON EAGLES
Coach: CRAIG HOOD
1-8
OFFENSE
After coaching stints at Morrison, Commerce, Fairland, Vinita, South Coffeyville and Welch, coach Craig Hood has landed at Afton High School. During his 28-year career as a coach, Hood has done everything from being a head coach to running special teams. Entering into the 2025 season, coach Hood said the team looks to put their best effort forward every Friday night. “Through hard work, discipline and preparation, our expectations are to put our best effort forward every Friday night. We want our players in the best possible positions for success,” said coach Hood. It all starts up front for the Eagles. Jordan Lee (6-2, 250, Sr.) is a two-way starter and someone who will play a physical brand of football in the trenches. His play will set the tone. Quarterback Ricky Barton (6-0, 170, Jr.) will benefit from having a player like Lee up front but expect Barton to run an offense that focuses on the run but has the ability to throw the ball when called upon. Running back Cater Landrum (6-2, 205, Jr.) is a load and tough to bring down. His power style of running coupled with his athleticism makes him an important piece of the offensive puzzle Afton is looking to throw at opponents this season.
DEFENSE
Landrum will also start at linebacker alongside Blake Ford (6-1, 215, Jr.) and Kendal Landrum (6-3, 190, Jr.). The trio can attack ball carriers and make life difficult in the passing game by pressuring the opposing QB or dropping into coverage. Ford and K. Landrum are both options in the run game on offense giving the Eagles a backfield that forces teams to adjust to a run game that features three excellent backs. Barton will see time in the secondary and is someone who understands and reads QBs well. Also look for Lee to play defensive tackle. Overall, the defense has a few positions up for grabs, but with a few fresh faces on the roster and a renewed passion in Eagle country, Afton is ready for a solid first season with coach Hood and a return to playing football the Afton way. The coaching staff includes Dusty Henry and Eli Carr.
