2024-25 Record: 20-11
OUTLOOK
A youth movement is at hand for the Lady Hornets despite returning their two top scorers from last season. Coach Nathan Wylie said the team is young and finding their identity.
“Two returning starters and the first player off the bench are back. Top two scorers are back. Will be very young. If the young kids can figure things out, we could be a tough team by late season,” coach Wylie said.
Sara Hency (Sr.) is a four-year starter who can stay in the post but has the versatility to play outside. A solid three-point shooter, Hency averaged 18 points and 9.0 rebounds last year. With her scoring and high basketball IQ, Hency was named to the VYPE Top 100 watch list this season.
Two seniors to watch are Ella Tyrell and Dakota Smith. Tyrell is a guard who can shoot the three, while Smith will play a hybrid guard/forward spot and brings a tremendous work ethic to the court.
Ayla Hency and Rylee Brown are two sophomores with high ceilings. Hency is an excellent three-point shooter who averaged 12 points a game as a freshman. Brown was the sixth-man off the bench last year and started in the playoffs. Look for Brown to be the point guard this season bringing her high energy and great ball-defense to the court. Also look for Jenna Bandy to contribute again this season.
