There is optimism surrounding the Vinita wrestling program as coach Danny Hicks is preparing his team for the long, grueling season on the mat.
“The Hornets swarm into the 2025-26 season with a roster full of young talent. The Hornets will be led by senior, Luke Prince a returning state runner-up and junior, Kolbe Bargas, a returning state qualifier,” coach Hicks said.
Luke Prince (Sr.) has been a force on the mat for three seasons and coach Hicks said everyone expects his great performances to continue.
“Luke has been a dominant force on the mat for the last three years and we expect his reign of dominance will continue this season,” coach Hicks said.
Prince was state runner-up last year and is poised to make another run at etching his name into the annals of Oklahoma wrestling history by becoming a state champion.
Kolbe Bargas (Jr.) is looking to do the same. Bargas wrestled at 132-pounds this season and could move up in weight this year. Ty Purcell (Fr.) enters the wrestling room as a freshman but brings a high skill level that will help him earn the respect of his teammates in workouts and in duals. Coach Hicks expects Purcell to make an impact this season.
“Ty is a freshman that will have an immediate impact on the Hornet wrestling team. Ty’s equipped with the skills, work ethic and dedication of a champion. We really feel he will make waves around the state come February,” coach Hicks said.
