Vinita’s Ella Tyrrell
By Trina Walker
Ella Tyrrell is a multi-talented athlete. Over the summer she was chosen as an All-American Cheerleader, she enjoys golf and has a special love for the sport of basketball.
She is a senior at Vinita High School. Her introduction to basketball was in grade school when she started playing on a Vinita Little League team. She has grown extensively in the sport since her Little League days.
“Basketball has taught me to never give up even if things are not going your way,” she says, “I am passionate about basketball because it is fun and it keeps me motivated.”
Representing her school as a student-athlete is special to Tyrrell because of her love for her community.
“My favorite part about representing Vinita as an athlete is the people Vinita comes with,” she said.
Tyrrell has multiple memories of playing with her teammates making it difficult to pick just one. A career high, she says, is when she hit important three-point shots in the regional and area tournaments.
The quality time spent with her teammates has created relationships she will always cherish. Being with them every day is what Tyrrell loves most about being on a team.
“Lauren Fraley has left the biggest impression on me because she is always wanting me to do better and knows me very well, so it was really cool to have her as a teammate,” Tyrrell said.
The teacher at VHS she likes the most is Mrs. Bible, who was instrumental in helping her become a better writer. Her favorite subject is math. It is challenging and Tyrrell enjoys challenging herself with math problems.
Her most memorable family vacation was to Cabo. She loves whales and they were able to see many during the trip. Sharing the experience with her family made the trip even more special.
Tyrrell’s family is her support and her inspiration.
“My family inspires me because they believe in me,” she says, “thank you for always supporting me!”
Tyrrell takes simple advice with her as she prepares for her future at the University of Oklahoma. “Stay true to yourself and always be positive.”
