Lauren Fraley, a dedicated cross country athlete from Vinita High School, embodies the spirit of determination and resilience. Her journey in the sport is a testament to her unwavering commitment to excellence.

When asked about her favorite coach, Fraley singles out Coach Wylie. “My favorite coach has been Coach Wylie; not only has he worked so hard to train all of his athletes in every sport, but he also builds amazing relationships with them too,” she said.

Fraley draws inspiration from her teammates, acknowledging their hard work and unwavering support. “I admire all of my teammates because they all work hard and they are all super supportive,” she said. In cross country, where collective effort often defines success, Fraley’s admiration for her teammates reflects their shared pursuit of excellence.

In the classroom, Fraley found a guiding light in Mrs. Kennedy, her science teacher. “My favorite teacher is Mrs. Kennedy; she never judges any student and is always there to help, even with work that isn’t hers.”

During the off-season, Fraley takes the initiative to run independently and puts in the extra work required to excel in her sport. “I’d say hitting the weight room is one of my favorite ways to get ready for the season,” Fraley said. “Not only does it get me physically ready for the season, but it makes me overcome those mental challenges and barriers that I will see during season.”

Fraley’s experiences in cross country have instilled valuable life lessons. “My sport has taught me that nothing is easy, and you’ll only be as good as the amount of work you put in.”

One of Fraley’s fondest memories in cross country is her qualification for the state competition during her freshman year. It was a remarkable achievement that solidified her love for the sport and remains a cherished moment in her athletic journey.

As the new season unfolds, Fraley has clear aspirations. She hopes to make it to the state competition once again, either as an individual or as part of her team.

Looking ahead to life after high school, Fraley plans to attend college and pursue a degree in psychology and criminal justice.
