“I love the brotherhood we have built over the last four years. We play as a team and not as individuals,” Christie said.
A physical presence in the trenches, Christie enjoys the competitive energy that arrives each Friday night. He identifies his non-stop effort as a defining part of his game.
“I love going out on Fridays and dominating. My biggest strength is my motor. I fire off the ball and keep my feet moving,” Christie said.
Christie also recognizes where he can continue to improve, focusing on technique as he prepares for the season.
“My pad level needs work, but it gets better day by day,” Christie said.
His development has been shaped by former Vinita player Carter Falling, who now plays defensive line at Oklahoma Baptist University. Christie said Falling invested time in him when he first entered the program.
“Carter Falling left an impression on me. When I came in as a freshman, he was junior, and the only guy who invested any time into teaching me and helping me develop as a player. He currently plays defensive line for Oklahoma Baptist University, I owe him all the praise for building me into the player that I am today,” Christie said.
Christie, who also competes in the shot put and participates in Fellowship of Christian Athletes, hopes his senior season opens a path to college football. Vinita’s veterans are prepared to make their experience count.
“Last year I learned how to deal with adversity from every direction. Us older guys have experienced the close games and are ready to be on the good side of them,” Christie said.
