WELCH WILDCATS
Coach: RYAN GLEAVES
8-3
OFFENSE
After an impressive season a year ago, coach Ryan Gleaves returns several starters and players with good experience this season. “We have a solid core from last year’s 8-3 team coming back. We will have to work hard to fill some holes left due to graduation. Our seniors should be great leaders for the team to lean on,” said Gleaves. Mason Clinton (5-10, 165, Sr.) is a four-year starter for the Wildcats. As a freshman he played running back before taking over the quarterback position as a sophomore. Now a senior, Clinton will look to spread teams out in the single-back formation and create mismatches that allow the Wildcats to be successful. Eric Pitcher (5-9, 160, Jr.) and Khol Lynch (6-0, 220, Sr.) are two running backs the coaching staff is excited to have back. Both guys run hard and give the offense options in the passing game. Cash Tucker (6-3, 165, Sr.) starts at tight end and will play a significant role in the offense. Timmy Bidwell (5-11, 265, Sr.) and Thomas Ashworth (5-10, 230, So.) anchor the offensive line. Bidwell starts at guard with Ashworth playing center.
DEFENSE
Look for several players to go both ways this season. Lynch and Tucker are two bookend defensive ends. If they can set the edge and kick everything inside, Clinton should be there waiting to make the play. Clinton starts at linebacker in the 3-2 scheme that focuses on gap control and playing responsible, assignment football. Dakota Bidwell (6-0, 160, Jr.) starts at one of the corner spots. His work ethic has the coaching staff excited to see what he can do this season. Bidwell is an FCA captain as well. Timmy Bidwell moves from offensive guard to nose guard on defense. His ability to pressure up the middle is key. Joseph Bryson is serving as assistant coach. Overall, the Wildcats have an excellent roster with some younger talent looking to step up and fill the gaps.
