Grove High School
When Grove High School’s Gavin Wyatt first stepped onto the football field, he knew this was the sport for him. His father played a big role in developing a love for the game and now Wyatt is a leader on the Ridgerunners football team.
“I started in second grade, my father put me in there and he knew I was going to explode immediately. Once I started, I took off like a rocket. Loved being at practice and with all my friends and having some fun. My inspiration has been my dad since he put me into football in second grade, although I think I’m better than my dad was (joking), I look up to my dad as becoming an adult and soon one day a father,” said Wyatt.
Entering the new season, Wyatt said he has seen a lot of positives from the team.
“Some positives I saw from us is that we are a family no matter what. One of us does wrong others encourage them and they say move on next play. We not worried about doing bad or good, we were focusing on getting our job done and at the best of our ability,” said Wyatt. “I love that my teammates can be reliable and when I need them, they’ll be there. I couldn’t ask for better.”
Wyatt is a three-sport athlete at GHS and said there is no other place he would rather be.
“I play football, wrestling, baseball. I focus on all of them equally because I love all the sports I do. I work as hard I can with each of them. Grove is a great place for me as a student and an athlete. School comes first for me, that’s just how I was raised. The culture and the environment here is just amazing, I wouldn’t want to be anywhere else. I love these people and everything that they do for me,” said Wyatt.
This season Wyatt and his teammates want to go all the way. They are putting in the work to make it happen. Playing in front of family and friends makes all the hard work worth it.
“I enjoy my family getting to come watch me play football, that is one of my main reasons I play it. I play for the brotherhood, that’s another reason, those bonds are unbreakable,” said Wyatt.
When his high school career comes to an end, Wyatt wants to attend college. In his free time Wyatt said he enjoys spending it reading his Bible or with friends and family. “Those are the things I love most. I also love working cattle and fishing.”
