OUTLOOK

In 19 seasons at the helm of the ship for the Lady Ridgerunners, coach Richard Bassett has seen his share of great players come through the program. This season coach Bassett returns several players who are instrumental to the overall success of the program.

“We are returning everyone from last year’s team, so I am hopeful for the season. We have three seniors that have all played for the last couple of years so experience will definitely help us,” coach Bassett said.

One player leaving her mark on the program is Rowan Geer (5-9, Sr.), a four-year starter who for her career has averaged 17.2 points a game with 7.5 rebounds and 2.7 steals a game. Last season, Geer suffered an injury that sidelined her halfway through the season. Coach Bassett said Geer is a next level player.

“She is going to Harding University on a full-ride scholarship for basketball. She has been the best player on our team since her freshman year,” coach Bassett said.

Javen Buffington (5-9, Sr.) and Ayden Arnold (5-6, Sr.) are two upperclassmen looking to make their final season of prep basketball their best. Buffington will play in the post while Arnold is a guard with a lot of experience. Both players will be key this season.

Kinsey Guinn (5-7, Jr.) is an outstanding athlete who works hard at her craft. One of several leaders on the team, Guinn is a multi-sport student-athlete and someone the team will rely heavily on at forward. Allie Hasselman (5-7, Jr.) and Jade Dillinger (5-6, Jr.) are two guards looking to use their skills to get on the court this season. Both play solid defense and will be key players this season. Zoe Robertson (5-8, Jr.) is another forward in the junior class who brings athleticism and the ability to battle for rebounds to the court.

The sophomore group has matured into their roles on the team and expect to contribute in big ways this year. Alivia Shumaker (5-7, So.) will play guard, while Gweneth Ward (5-9, So.) will play forward. Ward is a sharpshooter who can enter the game and make an immediate impact. Also look for Jaxyn Berryman (5-6, So.) at guard, giving the team another athletic player who is ready for the spotlight.
