Ketchum’s Cannon Knoten – Athlete Spotlight – Presented by BancFirst Ketchum

Under the lights at Ketchum High School’s baseball field, senior pitcher and utility player Cannon Knoten toes the rubber with the same calm confidence that has carried the Warriors to some of their biggest moments. A three-sport athlete who also lined up at wide receiver and safety for the football team, Knoten has built his reputation on toughness, versatility and a clear understanding that nothing is promised.

“Life’s not fair, neither is sports, that’s why there’s a winner and a loser,” Knoten said. That perspective sharpened last spring when Ketchum made a deep postseason run. “Making it to the state championship is something I am most proud of,” he said.

In the dugout, Knoten’s competitive streak shows up in a friendly rivalry with teammate Landan Long. “We have a friendly battle to see who can hit 90 first and it’s going to be me,” Knoten said with a grin. The race to the radar gun is another reminder of the standard Ketchum baseball has set over the years.

“Baseball has the most banners in our school; it reminds us of the success of the program,” Knoten said. That tradition pushes him to uphold the expectations that come with wearing a Warriors jersey each spring.

Knoten leans on a simple piece of advice as he works to refine his game. “There’s always someone better than me,” he said, noting that the phrase keeps him hungry in the weight room, on the mound and in the batter’s box.

His motivation starts at home. “My parents for pushing me to be better and make it to the next level,” Knoten said when asked who deserved a thank you. He also draws inspiration from close to home when it comes to role models.

“Brock Knoten, he is my brother, and I want to be better than him,” Cannon said. With that goal in mind and one more spring to add to Ketchum’s banner collection, the senior right-hander is determined to leave the program even stronger than he found it.
