Vinita High School’s football program has long prided itself on blue-collar toughness and small-town loyalty, and varsity standout Trevor Moss fits that mold as well as anyone in a Hornets uniform. A versatile athlete who lines up all over the field, Moss has grown into both a leader in the locker room and a steady presence on Friday nights, driven by a deep sense of brotherhood and family.
“The things I love the most about my team and teammates is the brotherhood that this team has created bonding for longer than a football season but creating a bond for life,” Moss said. That bond has carried the Hornets through challenges and changes, and it has shaped how Moss approaches the game and his role within the program. He views every practice, workout and game as a chance to strengthen that connection and set an example for younger players coming up behind him.
On the field, Moss embraces being asked to do a little bit of everything. “I play multiple positions all around the field in all types of formations essentially being a jack of all trades, but my favorite positions are middle linebacker and wide receiver since I can use my skills to effectively beat defenders and shrug offensive linemen,” he said. That football IQ shows up most on defense, where Moss takes pride in reading formations and recognizing plays before the snap. “The strength of my game I would say is my IQ studying film and being able to call plays out before they happen is something you can always use at the middle linebacker position,” Moss said.
His impact is not limited to one season or one sport. Moss also competes in basketball and baseball, further cementing his place in Vinita’s athletic community. Away from the spotlight, he points to the influence of a former teammate as a key part of his growth. “My freshman year the person I looked up to was Jett Ogdon a senior at the time who taught me many things at linebacker and receiver but most importantly out of football he would give me rides home and to other team objectives while my mom was working and I never told him, but I really appreciated him for that,” Moss said.
Family remains at the center of his motivation. “The person who inspires me the most isn’t a celebrity or some famous athlete it’s my dad. My dad has inspired me to live my life to the fullest and to always push through adversity when times get hard instead of cowering down and turning away,” Moss said. That mindset has been crucial as he works back from two shoulder surgeries and focuses on rebuilding his strength through summer workouts that he said are helping the team “becoming better men overall building something that we can hold on to for life.”
Looking ahead, Moss plans to carry the lessons from football into his future. “After I graduate, I plan on working for my dad in the construction business learning the ropes at all levels eventually taking it over once he retires,” he said. For now, he remains locked in on helping Vinita continue to grow, believing that “staying together as brothers is something necessary for improvement.”
