Bella Rentfrow brings energy, versatility and a team-first mindset to Fairland High School athletics. A junior, Rentfrow is a catcher and utility player for the Owls’ fast-pitch softball program. Her involvement extends well beyond the diamond. She also plays basketball, cheers, competes in track and participates in slow-pitch softball.
“I play fastpitch softball as a catcher/utility and basketball as a shooting guard! I also cheer, run track, and play slow-pitch softball.”
Her proudest athletic memory came as a freshman at the slow-pitch state tournament, when she had the chance to contribute in a crucial situation.
“I think I will always be most proud of myself and my team at slow pitch state my freshman year. I was able to get out on the field and run for our pitcher. Getting the opportunity to score on such a big stage was a huge accomplishment. I’m extremely thankful for Averi Anderson for always trusting me to run for her and of course Jaylee Campbell for hitting me in to score.”
Rentfrow said sports continually offer lessons beyond wins and losses. This season, she has focused on being a stronger teammate and responding well when adversity arrives.
“Being an athlete provides you with new learning lessons every day. Although this year I think I’ve really learned how to be a better teammate and push through adversity.”
She credits her older brothers and parents for shaping her work ethic, while former teammates Calli Moncada and McKenna Hicks showed her the meaning of sacrifice for a team.
A message from Eric Jackson has also stayed with her: “We play sports because it’s fun, if you are no longer having fun you need to make a change and remember who you’re doing this for!”
Rentfrow appreciates every coach and teammate who has supported her, but she reserves special gratitude for her family.
“I want to thank every teammate and coach who made an impact on me. Most of all I want to thank my family for following me around, whether it was 5 minutes 5 hours. As well as always making sure I have what I need and always supporting my dreams.”
