Commerce High School freshman Kynlee Hamilton is embracing the challenge of varsity fastpitch softball while building a reputation as a versatile athlete, dedicated student and supportive teammate. Hamilton plays catcher and shortstop for Commerce, two demanding positions that require communication, quick decisions and a steady presence under pressure.
Most recently, Hamilton and her travel softball team traveled to Gulf Shores, Alabama, where they won a national championship tournament. The experience added another milestone to a young athletic career shaped by hard work and a willingness to grow through both success and setbacks.
“Softball has given me so many life lessons, it has taught me patience when things don’t go my way, humility when they do, and resilience when I have to get back up after failing,” Hamilton said. “Softball has taught me to be a better teammate, to celebrate other people’s success, and to encourage others even when I’m competing for the same goals. Its taught me discipline, accountability, and how to handle both victory and disappointment with character.”
Hamilton’s approach carries over into the classroom. She was valedictorian of her eighth-grade class, maintained a 4.0 GPA and received both the Shanna Miller Award and Masonic Student of Today recognition. She credits former first-grade teacher Holli Brock with helping her see the value of setting and reaching goals at an early age.
“Mrs. Holli Brock. My 1st grade teacher taught me that when you set goals and achieve them the feeling of accomplishment is a rewarding feeling at a young age. Mrs. Brock has always been in my corner cheering me on for many years!” Hamilton said.
Her parents also remain central to her motivation as she balances academics, athletics and the transition to high school competition.
“The people who inspire me most are my parents. They work hard every day and always support me, no matter what. They encourage me to do my best in school, sports, and life, and they remind me that having good character is more important than winning. They have taught me to be kind, work hard, and never give up, even when things get difficult. I admire the way they put our family first and always believe in me. Their love, strength, and encouragement inspire me to keep improving and to become the best athlete, student, and person I can be,” Hamilton said.
