Starting offensive lineman for the Miami Wardogs, Josiah Barley is entering his sophomore season, but the big man is making waves as one of the top linemen in the class. Barley said he loves being a Wardog and representing his school.
“Miami is a great place to be a student-athlete because the both the teachers and coaches not only teach you how to be a better student-athlete, but also show you how to be a better person in life. They are always supportive in every sport that we do, and work to make us the best student we can be. Along with the staff, the supporting community and hardworking environment that we play in makes it a great place to be a student-athlete,” said Barley.
Football may be the sport of choice today, but Barley has played basketball and some soccer when he was younger. Today, football is the obvious sport for him and in a few short years, Barley may have the opportunity to play at the next level.
“What I have enjoyed most about football is probably the brotherhood that forms when you join our team. If a teammate messes up, we help pick their head up and keep going. The bond between my teammates and I is one that will support me for the rest of my life. The coaches I have are always striving and pushing for me and my team to be at our best,” said Barley. “I’m probably most excited about the team we have this year. I believe we can go far and do some special things that this community hasn’t seen in a while. Being able to make them proud is just as exciting. Some teammates you should keep an eye out for this season are Hayden Miller, Chris Kelley, and Sam Lillard.”
In the classroom, Barley said history is his favorite subject, but one day he would like to work in Sports Administration. “My favorite subject in school would have to be history. I have always just enjoyed it, and the teachers I’ve had made it fun. My favorite teacher would have to be Mrs. Witten. She is nice and genuinely cares about you, and you can tell she has a heart for kids. My plan after graduation is to attend the University of Texas, while studying Sports Administration. Along with that, I’ll be working hard to keep up my career in football,” said Barley.
Currently, Barley serves as Treasurer of the National Junior Honor Society and he’s a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.
