Afton’s JJ Miller – Athlete Spotlight – Presented by Patrick Kauffman – Shelter Insurance

Never shying away from competition, Afton High School’s JJ Miller is looking forward to a tough schedule and his final season of prep football.

“The thing I am most excited about this season is that it’s my senior year, so I have one more year to go out there and show everyone what I got and what I’ve learned since last year,” said Miller.

Football was not the first sport of choice for Miller, but as soon as he experienced the thrill of putting on the pads and playing a more physical sport, football took over.

“The first sport I played was baseball and that was my favorite sport for several years until I started football in second grade and since the first time, I put the pads on and hit someone football has been favorite sport,” said Miller. “The thing I’ve enjoyed the most about being on the football team is the brotherhood that I have built with current and past teammates.”

Miller said everyone should keep an eye on several of his teammates this season.

“A couple of my teammates you should keep an eye on is Blaizee Savage and Alex Snell. They have showed up to everything we have done this summer and have really put the work in to be good this year,” said Miller. “The thing I love most about this group is the majority of us have been together since junior high, so I’m excited to give one last hurrah with my friends and we’ve got a lot of freshmen that’s stepped up and is ready to help us out as much as they can.”

As a student-athlete, Miller said he enjoys his classes and is looking forward to being a college student.

“My favorite subject in school is math because it came very easy to me, and my favorite teacher is my English/Spanish teacher Paul Sanders because he has taught me so many things outside of school and we have had many conversations that I learned a lot from. I plan on studying Business/Entrepreneurship in college. Afton is a great place to be a student-athlete because the student aspect is put before the athlete and the teachers and staff push you to be your best on and off the field,” said Miller.
