Fairland’s Brady Kinsey – Athlete Spotlight – Presented by Grand Savings Bank

Fairland High School sophomore Brady Kinsey jogs onto the diamond each game day knowing he carries more than just his own expectations. He carries his teammates’ trust, his family’s support and the pride of wearing an Owls uniform.

Kinsey is a rare three-sport athlete, suiting up for basketball, baseball and golf, but the baseball field is where his competitive fire shows the most. On the diamond, he pitches and moves around the infield, filling middle infield and third base roles, but one spot stands above the rest. “I play basketball, baseball, and golf,” Kinsey said. “Position wise I play pitcher, middle infield and third base. My favorite is second base though.”

His favorite memory so far came as a freshman, when he cleared the fence for the first time in a varsity game. “Hitting my first homerun freshman year is the memory I’m most proud of,” Kinsey said.

Kinsey points to several people who have helped him grow on and off the field. He credits his freshman science teacher, Coach Marshall, for keeping the classroom loose and sports-centered. “We could always joke around with him and talk sports from talking about how the game went the night before to making fun of each other because our college football teams lost the previous weekend,” Kinsey said.

Family support runs even deeper. “My parents because they push me to be the best of my capabilities,” Kinsey said. “That’s one of the reasons I even play sports in the first place because my Dad has always been there coaching me and my mom and grandparents have always been there cheering me on from the bleachers.” He also leans on his cousin. “My cousin Colt Kinsey because even when it’s not baseball season, he and I are playing catch together and throwing bullpens.”

As he looks ahead to more seasons in an Owls uniform, Kinsey keeps returning to gratitude. “I want to say thank you to my parents and grandparents from the countless hours spent at the field cheering me on to all the time spent helping me practice,” he said. “They really are just always there for me when I need them.”
