Grove’s Briggs Fink- Athlete Spotlight

Grove High School senior Briggs Fink has built his final prep season on consistency, family support and a deep connection with his teammates, both on and off the field.

A varsity contributor at slot receiver and free safety, Fink embraces the dual responsibilities that come with playing on both sides of the ball. While his offensive role requires quickness and precision, his duties in the secondary demand communication and awareness.

“The hardest thing about free safety is knowing the coverages and the communication through it,” Fink said.

That attention to detail reflects a broader mindset shaped by years of competition and steady encouragement from those closest to him.

“My parents and my grandparents inspire me the most because they are always there to support me and come to all of my games,” Fink said.

Now a senior, Fink has grown into a leadership role, valuing not just performance, but the relationships that define his high school experience. He said the bond within the Grove locker room is what makes the season meaningful.

“I enjoy getting to hang out with my friends and growing close with everyone on the team,” he said. “We are not just teammates but friends who like to hang out with each other on and off the field.”

That connection is even more personal with his brother, Jace, also on the team.

“I also love that I get to play with my brother Jace,” Fink said.

Among his many memories, one stands above the rest. In a tightly contested game against Fort Gibson during his junior year, Fink delivered a decisive play.

“They scored a touchdown with no time left, putting them down by one,” he said. “They decided to go for two to try and win the game. I ended up making the tackle on the 2-yard line to stop the 2-point conversion and win the game at home.”

The moment captured both his defensive instincts and his ability to perform under pressure — qualities that have become hallmarks of his game.

Not every memory comes from a victory, however. Fink recalls one of the most unusual experiences of his career during a game against Skiatook in his sophomore year.

“The rain was coming down so hard you could barely see anything in front of you,” he said. “That was probably the craziest thing I’ve seen on the football field.”

Off the field, Fink balances athletics with academics, naming science as his favorite subject. He credits teachers Alisha Smith and Mrs. Guthridge as influential figures in his education.

When he is not practicing or studying, Fink enjoys spending time outdoors.

“I enjoy spending time with my family at home or spending time on the lake fishing or surfing,” he said.
