Jay High School senior Isabel East understands the importance of being dependable.
As a varsity cheerleader and main base, East provides the foundation for her teammates during stunts. Her role requires strength, focus and trust as she helps keep the flyer stable while skills are performed in the air.
East joined the Jay community after moving there last year, and she quickly found a supportive environment within the cheer program.
“Since my move to Jay last year, the girls on my team have been nothing but welcoming. I love the determination they have to improve all skills, as well as the encouragement to bring the team up,” East said.
That welcoming atmosphere has helped East continue developing not only as an athlete, but also as a leader. She said positivity is one of her greatest strengths and something she works to share with teammates, particularly younger cheerleaders adjusting to a new setting.
Beyond cheer, East stays active throughout the school. She serves as Student Council secretary, belongs to the National Honor Society and works as a part-time football manager for her father, Jay’s head football coach.
East also credits freshman teammate Jaeleigh Hughes for encouraging her growth.
“The teammate who has left an impression on me is Jaeleigh Hughes. She is a freshman this year, but she holds so much talent and determination. She also tumbles with me and has pushed me out of my comfort zone on many occasions to accomplish things I didn’t think I could. I’m so excited to see where she goes and how much she will excel!” East said.
Her mother remains East’s greatest inspiration because of her constant support for the family and the activities in which East participates.
After graduation, East plans to attend college, earn her registered nurse license and become a traveling nurse. She also hopes to continue cheering at the collegiate level, carrying forward the same support and encouragement that have shaped her Jay experience.
